About Alinekart

Why this site exists

Most product advice online is written to close a sale. You search for a humidifier, land on a page of ten boxes with star ratings and buy buttons, and come away knowing which model has the best commission rate — not what size tank you need for a 400-square-foot bedroom, or why the “ultrasonic” one will coat your nightstand in white dust if you fill it from the tap.

Alinekart is built the other way round. We explain the criteria, the specifications and the standards that actually separate a good purchase from an expensive mistake. Once you understand what CADR means, or why a 10-inch carbon-steel skillet behaves differently from a 10-inch stainless one, you can walk into any store or any product page and judge it yourself — including models that did not exist when we published.

What we publish, and how

Our guides are research-led explainers. We work from four kinds of source, in roughly this order of weight:

  • Published standards and test methods — the documents that define what a rating means. AHAM AC-1 for air purifier CADR figures, ASHRAE 52.2 for MERV filter ratings, NSF/ANSI 42 and 53 for water filter claims, ASTM methods for cookware, and the relevant US federal rules (FDA food-contact regulations, EPA and FTC guidance).
  • Manufacturer technical documentation — spec sheets, installation manuals and service documents, which carry detail that marketing pages leave out.
  • Independent testing and regulatory data where it has been published, cited directly so you can check it.
  • Government and academic guidance on health and safety questions, for example EPA material on indoor air quality or FDA positions on cookware coatings.

We say plainly what we are not. Alinekart does not operate a testing laboratory, and we do not claim hands-on results we have not produced. Where a question can only be settled by measurement — the real-world noise of one specific model, for instance — we tell you that, point you to whoever has measured it, and explain what the number would mean if you had it.

That approach has a limit worth stating: our guides are strongest on the things that do not change — the physics, the standards, the trade-offs between materials — and weakest on which individual model is currently best. We write mostly about the former, because it stays true.

Who writes it

Alinekart is edited by Amara Taylor, based in California. Every guide on the site is written or reviewed against the editorial standards set out in our Editorial and Review Policy, which covers how we source claims, when we use a placeholder instead of a guess, and how we handle corrections.

How we pay for it

The site carries advertising, and some links may earn a commission. Neither affects what we recommend, and neither buys a mention. The full arrangement is set out in our Advertising and Affiliate Disclosure.

Corrections

If something on this site is wrong, we want to know, and we would rather hear it from a reader than leave it standing. Specifications get revised, standards get updated, and we make mistakes like anyone else. Write to hello@alinekart.com with the page and the problem. Substantive corrections are made in the article itself and noted at the foot of it with the date.
